DocketBuddy — Terms of Service (Attorney Platform)

Last updated: June 5, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the DocketBuddy attorney platform at docketbuddy.org and related services (the "Service"), operated by Buddy Financial LLC ("Buddy Financial," "we," "us," or "our"), doing business as DocketBuddy. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

This is the agreement for the attorney platform. Buddy Financial also operates separate consumer-facing services under the Buddy Foundation family of brands; those are governed by their own separate terms and are not covered here.

1. Who may use the Service

The Service is intended solely for licensed attorneys in good standing with the bar of at least one U.S. jurisdiction, and their authorized firm personnel. By using the Service you represent that you are such an attorney (or are authorized by one), that the information you provide about your bar status is accurate, and that your use complies with the rules of professional conduct of every jurisdiction in which you practice.

2. What the Service is — and is not

DocketBuddy is practice-management and workflow software, including AI-assisted tools that produce drafts, analyses, checklists, summaries, and reminders to support your work.

DocketBuddy is not a law firm, does not practice law, and does not provide legal advice. Using the Service does not create an attorney-client relationship between you and Buddy Financial, and nothing the Service produces is a substitute for your own professional judgment.

All output is a draft for your independent review. Documents, calculations, deadline estimates, status information, and any other output generated by the Service — including AI-generated content — may be incomplete, outdated, or incorrect, and must be reviewed, verified, and approved by you before any reliance or use. You remain solely responsible for: the accuracy and adequacy of all work product; all legal, strategic, and professional decisions; meeting all deadlines; compliance with all rules of professional conduct, including those governing competence, confidentiality, supervision, and the unauthorized practice of law; and your relationships with your own clients.

3. Accounts and security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. You agree to enable available security protections (including multi-factor authentication) and to notify us promptly of any unauthorized use. We may suspend access where we reasonably believe an account is compromised or used in violation of these Terms.

4. Your data and your clients' data

You retain all rights to the data you and your personnel input into the Service, including information about your clients ("Your Data").

As between you and Buddy Financial, you are the controller of Your Data and Buddy Financial acts as a processor on your behalf — we process Your Data to provide the Service to you and do not use it to provide services to others or for unrelated purposes. You represent that you have the authority and any necessary consents to input Your Data, including any client information, and that doing so is consistent with your professional and confidentiality obligations. Our handling of Your Data is described in the DocketBuddy Privacy Policy (Attorney Platform), which is incorporated into these Terms.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to: use the Service for any unlawful purpose; attempt to access data belonging to other attorneys or their clients; probe, scan, or circumvent security; reverse engineer or copy the Service; resell or sublicense the Service without authorization; or upload malicious code. You are responsible for ensuring your use of any third-party data source accessed through the Service complies with that source's terms.

6. Fees, subscriptions, and billing

Access to practice modules is offered on a subscription basis. Current pricing is shown at docketbuddy.org/pricing and is incorporated by reference. Subscriptions renew automatically for the term selected (monthly or annual) until cancelled. Founding-member accounts receive the trial terms described at signup; at the end of a founding free year, standard pricing applies, and we will notify you before any charge.

Refunds. Fees are non-refundable except where required by law or granted at our discretion. You may cancel at any time, and cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid term, through which you retain access. We may change pricing prospectively on reasonable notice; changes do not affect the current paid term.

7. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, and content (excluding Your Data), is owned by Buddy Financial and its licensors and is protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your law practice during your subscription. You retain ownership of Your Data and of the work product you create and finalize using the Service.

8. Third-party services and data sources

The Service integrates third-party providers (including, for example, payment processing, email delivery, hosting, and AI model providers) and may surface information from third-party or government data sources (such as court and agency records). We do not control and are not responsible for the accuracy, availability, or terms of third-party services or data sources, and their information may be delayed, incomplete, or unavailable. You must independently verify any third-party-sourced information before relying on it.

9. Disclaimers

The Service and all output are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. Without limiting the foregoing, we do not warrant that any output is legally accurate, complete, current, or suitable for any matter, or that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Buddy Financial will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or professional liability arising from your use of or reliance on the Service. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amounts you paid us for the Service in the twelve (12) months before the event giving rise to the claim.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Buddy Financial from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your work product, your professional conduct, your relationships with your clients, or your breach of these Terms.

12. Termination

You may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid term. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these Terms. On termination you may export Your Data for thirty (30) days, after which we may delete it in the ordinary course, subject to the Privacy Policy.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the Service or by email, and continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

14. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Georgia, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. You and Buddy Financial agree that any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Georgia, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts.
